Key stage 3

Students entering Year 7 follow a common curriculum. They are placed in broad ability sets by the second half of the autumn term.

Below are the list of subjects studied in Y7, 8 and 9 with the fortnightly hours:

Year 9

In Year 9 students begin the GCSE in English, Maths and Science. Depending on the individual student’s pathway the science courses will be either the separate Sciences or the Double Award in Year 10.

All students in KS3 and KS4 participate in enrichment and extra-curricular activities on Wednesdays Period 5. These sessions are part of our very unique ‘MyZone’ programme. A comprehensive list of activities can be found under ‘MyZone’ in the ‘Curriculum’ area of the website.

At the end of Year 9, our students choose their GCSE options to study for the next two years. They all study for examinations in Mathematics, English (language and literature), Biology, Chemistry, Physics.  Students can choose to take GCSEs from the list below (each subject is studied 5 hours over a fortnight) according to their pathway:

Food Technology, Graphics or Resistant Materials Art or Photography of Applied Art Computing or Cambridge National in ICT Drama
Business Geography History Physical Education
Religious Education Music German or French Psychology

 

Pupils follow 3 pathways:

Oak Pathway Separate sciences, and four options to include a language and Geography/History
Finch Pathway Double science and four options to include a language and Geography/History
Scimitar Pathway Double science and two options, IFS qualification and support lessons in the core subjects.

In the Sixth Form most students take 4 subjects at AS level in Year 12 and 3 subjects at A2 in Year 13, but other options are available including Applied A level and Cambridge Technical qualifications. The subjects currently available are:

Cambridge Technical in ICT Business Studies Cambridge Technical in Business Economics
Psychology French Sociology  Computer Science
History Government and Politics Geography Design and Technology
Physical Education Music/Music Technology at Woodhouse on Wednesday afternoons BTEC Level 3 Sport BTEC Level 2 Creative Digital Media Production

All subjects have been allocated 9 lessons over a fortnight except:

BTEC Level 3 Sport (18 hours per fortnight)

BTEC Level 2 Creative Digital Media Production (  18 hours per fortnight)

(Students studying BTEC Level 2 Creative Digital Media Production also have 3 hours of English and 3 hours of Maths (over a fortnight) in order to achieve a grade C at GCSE)

Post 16 education is further supplemented by personal and Social Education, Careers guidance, EPQ and Citizenship, Our Further Maths students can follow a year long YASS Maths programme with the Open University. (cb)
