Summer School 2021
The aim of the programme
The aim of the programme was to deliver a short summer school with a blend of academic education and enrichment activities.
Who the programme was for
Pupils leaving primary school this year may have missed a significant proportion of key stage 2 face-to-face teaching and therefore missed valuable preparation for secondary education. Research shows that they were likely to need additional support with English and Maths, for example, to make it easier for them to access the secondary curriculum. Our summer school gave our new year 7 pupils the opportunity to offer that face-to-face support before they started a new school.
What did Christ's College Finchley offer?
At Christ’s College Finchley, we believe that the areas children missed the most during the pandemic have been the enrichment opportunities. Our 2021 Summer School programme was a booster to the child's core curriculum in Maths and English, as well as an assortment of enrichment. 50 of our new year 7 pupils well-being was catered to with Art Therapy, Clay, Fitness & Games sessions (dodgeball, cricket, football and table tennis) and they also worked in teams in a cookery class.
Lunch and snacks were also provided to each child by the school.
