Covid 19 Testing
The South African variant of COVID-19 has been located in an area of Barnet.
From today (Thursday 15 April) testing for this variant will begin in specific postcode areas affected in N3 and those who shop on the local high street (Ballards Lane).
Everyone in the affected N3 postcodes will be asked to take a test if they don’t have symptoms. Some areas will receive a home test to complete, and others will be asked to get a test at the local Mobile Test Unit.
You can check your N3 postcode here: Check your N3 postcode
From Thursday 15th April, Barnet teams will be going door to door offering home PCR testing kits. These will be collected from you and sent off to determine if you have COVID-19 and which variant it is.
You only need to take a test if you’re aged 16 and over. You can take the test if you’ve been vaccinated.
Mobile Test Unit – Finchley Central Station
A Mobile Testing Unit (MTU) will be set up from Thursday 15th April in the car park in Finchley Central Station. This will be open from 8am to 3pm 7 days a week. The opening times may change on Saturday 17th April due to HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh's funeral.
This is for people in the N3 postcodes listed, who will not receive a door drop test kit. Those who shop in the local area are also invited to get a test at the Finchley Central Mobile Testing Unit (MTU). You can also leave a completed test at an MTU if you were not home when the testing team came back to collect it.
If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19 you should not take the home test kits and should instead book a PCR test at one of our other sites.

Please do share this information with your networks around this area and encourage anyone who lives in one of the affected postcodes to take part, even if they have regular rapid tests for work or school.
